Agribusiness
Agribusinesses are pivotal for driving economic growth, reducing poverty and ensuring food security in Africa.
Agribusinesses in Africa face numerous challenges that hinder their potential for growth and impact. Post-harvest handling is a significant issue, with inadequate storage facilities and poor transportation infrastructure leading to high levels of food loss and reduced product quality. Limited access to affordable finance further constrains farmers and agribusinesses, making it difficult to invest in modern farm inputs like seeds, equipment and technology. Additionally, weak market linkages and fluctuating commodity prices hinder profitability, while policy and regulatory bottlenecks add uncertainty. Climate change aggravates these challenges, increasing the frequency of droughts and floods, which disrupt production and supply chains.
ACLAIM helps address these challenges through:
- Carrying out Business Health Checks to assess the business practices of agribusinesses and to provide recommendations and approaches to promote efficiency and sustainability of their value chains;
- Developing innovative and practical Business/Strategic Plans for agricultural enterprises;
- Linking small holder farmers and agribusiness players to access financing;
- Carrying out Financial Capacity Assessments and building the finance capacity of agribusiness owners and their Teams through Finance for Non-Finance Managers’ Trainings and Outsourced Financial Management Services to make them investment ready; and
- Conducting Business Trainings for agribusiness owners to equip them with skills to grow their income for better livelihoods and increased employment opportunities for the communities in which they operate; among many others.
