Organizational Capacity Assessment

Our Perspective

Often times, not-for-profit organisations are not fully aware of their capacity strengths or of the capacity gaps holding them back from delivering their interventions sustainably, managing donor resources responsibly, and adapting to changing environments.

It is critical for not-for-profit organisations to assess their strengths and where they need to improve to ensure not only their passion about change, but are also being equipped, accountable, and sustainable in delivering that change.

Our Approach
At ACLAIM, we administer our Organizational Capacity Assessment Tool to support not-for-profit organisations to examine their internal systems, structures, and practices and determine how well they can achieve their mandate and sustain their work. The Organisational Capacity Assessment is conducted in the areas of:

  • Governance;
  • Financial Management;
  • Human Resource Management;
  • Partner Management;
  • Procurement & Administration Management;
  • Programme Design;
  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning; and
  • Mainstreaming Cross-Cutting Issues such as gender and safeguarding, child protection, youth engagement, and inclusiveness of persons with disability among others.

The assessment is participatory to ensure honest reflection on the level of development of the organization’s systems, processes, people, and infrastructure.

At the end of the process, ACLAIM provides a comprehensive Capacity Assessment Report highlighting capacity strengths, gaps and actions for closing the capacity gaps. ACLAIM also supports the organisation to document the actionable and prioritized recommendations to address identified gaps in a Capacity Improvement Plan.
