In February 2023, ACLAIM Africa Limited was contracted by Goldmine Finance to conduct a Staff & Leadership Competence Assessment.
The staff competence assessment involved carrying out a technical skills/knowledge/experience/attributes assessment for technical staff to assess any key gaps and inform the Staff Development Plan.
The leadership assessment involved administering ACLAIM’s research-based proprietary Qualities of a Good Manager Survey. This tool outlines 20 key qualities that highly effective leaders possess, along with their corresponding definitions. The survey was distributed to managers to evaluate their leadership qualities, while input was also collected from their team members to gain a well-rounded perspective. Feedback from both groups informed the development of the Each Leader’s Development Plan.
The engagement included activities like:
- Interviews with all staff and supervisors;
- Development of Job Descriptions;
- Development of competence assessment tools for the technical roles;
- Data collection and analysis for technical roles (skills and attributes analysis)
- Administration of the leader’s survey
- Data collection and analysis for leaders (Strengths, blind spot analysis)
- Identification of training and attribute development needs per role and individual to feed into the staff and leaders development plans.
The results of the assessment were eye-opening on multiple fronts, according to feedback received from both management and staff of Goldmine Finance. Just like a prism reveals the spectrum and beauty within light, the competence assessment revealed the spectrum of the staffs’ skills and abilities; it brought to light Blind spots in skills (both strengths and weaknesses), enhanced role clarity and highlighted the opportunities for skills development.
